Celebration of the Summer Solstice. Join us as we observe the Mid Summer Solstice also known as Litha, Alban Heruin to the Druids and the Feast of St. John to the Christians.
The name of Litha is thought to be derived from the Saxon names for June and July. June was known as "Aerra Litha" meaning "before light " and July as "Aeftera Litha" meaning "after light". Since the sun is at its zenith at the solstice, it seems logical Litha referred to the longest day.
Traditionally the Holly King overcomes the Oak King at Litha and the slow descent to the shortest day begins once again. So Litha is a good time to celebrate the longest day and warmth of summer once again!!
